Garmin GPS NAVI Units
Posted by: LC in Tech, tags: 760, garmin, huge markup, huge profits, nuvi, ripoffAfter buying a Garmin Nuvi 760 for christmas for almost 600 freaking dollars, I came to realize what an idiot I really am. This has got to be the newest most lucrative money making business I have ever seen, most retailers were marketing this unit during christmas 2007 for about 750 dollars. I found a little known authorized internet reseller who sold it to me for 579. I thought i was getting a good deal. I know, i’m a real big retard. Not a couple of months later this thing was selling for well under 500.
The funny part is, i dont use half the features. I dont use the bluetooth hands free, i dont use the FM transciever. I dont use the mp3 storage capability. Just about the only thing i use is the USB port so i can transfer POI’s directly to it from google maps. But almost all of the units have this feature.
Not only that, even with the latest map updates, the unit makes the same routing mistakes my friends $100.00 tom tom makes.
What a joke. Do yourselves a favor folks, buy one that you can update with maps. Other than that, save your money. Unless you want to get ripped off only to find later on that these guys have a margin of like 400% markup on these units. All in all, my next navi unit i will spend no more than $200.00 dollars on it. The new garmin voice navi units, cost over 500 dollars. Give them a couple of months. In fact wait till after this christmas, you’ll probably be able to pick them up for at least 200 dollars off.
My nuvi 760 sells on amazon for 389 bux. 200 dollars cheaper than 6 months ago, and at least 300 dollars off of what some retailers including amazon were selling it for not to long ago.
